The transgender Diagnosis “F64 Gender identity disorders”, including the underlying codes are per January 1, 2017 discontinued by the Danish Health Data Authority
January 1, 2017 the Danish Health Data Authority discontinues the use of the transgender diagnosis codes “F64 Gender identity disorders” with the underlying codes. Consequently, these codes will no longer be used in Denmark.
Concurrently The Danish Health Data Authority opens the following new transgender related codes in “Chapter XXI Factors influencing health status and contact with health services” in the Danish version of ICD-10 which is called ”Sundhedsvæsenets Klassifikations System (SKS)”.
The new codes are used when people contact health services to get help clarifying their gender identity or because they want transgender related medical treatment.
The new codes are not diagnosis codes and therefore has no description.

Thus, the transgender related codes are no longer placed in the chapter on mental and behavioural disorders. The new transgender related codes only indicate that people have contacted the health service because of gender identity issue.
The changes were the result of a decision by the Danish government and opinion of all parties in the Danish parliament. It was decided that if no solution was found during the fall within WHO on the transgender entries in the transgender classification, then Denmark would change the local version of the classification. Subsequently it was decided to go for a local Danish revision.
Prior to the changes the Danish Health Data Authority obtained opinions from a number of medical experts and LGBT Denmark.
The code changes are implemented in Denmark only and is considered a temporary solution while waiting for a clarification by WHO.
From January 1, 2017, the new codes are found in the SKS-browser of the Danish Health Data Authority as follows (in Danish only):

- Write the code “DZ768E” in the “SKS-kode” field and press Enter (or press the “Søg” button).
